Il workshop sará un momento di riflessione, di proposta e soprattutto di azione, sugli spazi pubblici della città abbandonati e dimenticati; in particolare si presterà attenzione agli aspetti della mobilità, della gestione dei residui, dell’ acqua, dell’ energia, dell’ educazione ambientale e delle reti sociali esistenti in loco. continue reading

Como comentamos en un artículo anterior, se podría decir que existe un término medio entre usar software libre y software privativo, un punto de transición y convivencia al que se agarran los estudios de arquitectura que están intentando dar el salto. Architects Ellen Dunham-Jones and June Williamson confront the challenge of redeveloping abandoned suburban retail space in their new book, Retrofitting Suburbia: Urban Design Solutions for Redesigning Suburbs (Wiley Press, 2009). The detailed text also explores several creative solutions in which progressive planning has reinvigorated suburban communities nationwide. PM spoke to Dunham-Jones about the challenge of replacing dying malls and the culture of the car with pedestrian-centered residential and retail development.

$2 Wind Energy for the third-world

Shawn Frayne, a young inventor based in Mountain View, California, is the creator of Windbelt, a new device for wind-energy production based on an aerodynamic phenomenon known as aeroelastic flutter.

This phenomenon is a well-known destructive force and it caused, for example, the Washington’s Tacoma Narrows Bridge to collapse in 1940 (video). Researchers at Humdinger (this is the name of the company pushing forward the Windbelt technology) have discovered that it can also be a useful and powerful mechanism for ‘catching the wind’ at a variety of scales and costs beyond the reach of traditional turbines.

Electric Cars Now! es un proyecto finlandés que promueve la transformación de los tradicionales coches a motor de explosión en coches eléctricos.
