TIMELINE: Friday August 8th 2008 through Friday August 22nd 2008
INTRODUCTION: Professional and student architects, urbanists, designers, artists [and related fields], are invited to Barcelona in August 2008 to engage in a collective investigation of the city through the use of advanced digital tools and computer numerically controlled fabrication techniques. The workshop will facilitate collaboration of individuals from a broad applicant base in order to generate new forms of interventions that will be directly deployed and documented within the urban domain of Barcelona.
PROJECT BRIEF: Applicants will be introduced to the realm of digital fabrication through a series of projects that use the city of Barcelona as a living, breathing classroom. In the midst of learning digital tools necessary to complete the project (Rhino, fabrication equipment / theory) participants will be asked to study human interaction with inanimate objects throughout the city. Participants will take part in intensive rhino classes, mapping and theoretical discussion, digital fabrication technologies / case studies, and will ultimately fabricate a project using the laser cutting AND cnc (routing) manufacturing techniques. A two part project will then be proposed to digitally fabricate a project that coexists or builds upon collected data within the context of the city streets.

-Recent Notebook Computer capable of running Rhinoceros V4
-European Power Adapter (most notebook power sources are capable of converting from one source to another. Check your equipment before connecting to an international source)
-McNeel Rhinoceros V4 (for licensing info, contact BCN@LIVEARCHITECTURE.NET)
-Digital Camera [optional, but recommended]

FEES: LaN WORK/SHOP 2008 Total is 1000 € paid in full by July 23rd 2008. This fee includes guest lectures, software, scripting, and fabrication tutorials plus use of IaaC space and fabrication facilities for the execution of the projects for the full two week workshop period.
