For those of you who are not yet familiar with it, Appropedia is an appropriate technology wiki entirely dedicated to sustainability, poverty reduction and international development. Containing an encyclopedia, discussion forums and numerous links, Appropedia is a user generated open platform tool for empowering and informing. Anyone can add, remove or edit content.

According to Appropedia’s mission page – “Our vision is that all of humanity is able to work together developing and realizing rich, sustainable lives. We build the infrastructure, and help make the connections and populate free content to effect that vision. We provide the living resource library of individuals and organizations working towards a sustainable, healthier future, so that efforts can be spent evolving instead of duplicating past efforts.
We Briefly capture out vision and mission in this way, sharing knowledge to build rich sustainable lives”.

The goal of Appropedia is to help people come together to find collaborative and adaptable solutions to help themselves, and anyone working for positive change in the world. It is being used by nonprofit organizations and individuals working in the sustainable development field as it simplifies the administration of collaboratively organizing information, project examples, best practices etc. The articles present the advantages and disadvantages of each tool and methods in a variety of topics such as green living, water, energy, health etc.
Currently Appropedia contains over 17,000 articles, in seven languages (English, German, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, Indonesian).
