Imitated nature in Tokyo

Category: ⚐ EN+city+the environment

The typical characteristic of modern Japanese cities, most evident in Tokyo, is a chaotic, patchwork-like, urban environment filled with high-density residential and commercial areas close to industrial plants. Tokyo is known for hypermodern architecture, skyscrapers and looks like a future city. But how do people actually live in this concrete urbanity? continue reading

B-side of the consumer society

Category: ⚐ EN+city+sustainability+video

Our friends from basurama have been working on their blog for a few months. It is becoming more and more interesting each day. There, we have found an eye-opening report by la2 (Spanish public tv channel). In the words of juan from basurama: a well rounded, realistic report. Not softy, nor mushy. Gives voice to those who speak without slant or external opinions. It doesn’t become patronising, nor dogmatic (something out of the ordinary in this time of the year, and we are pleased about it).

symbollix

Category: ⚐ EN+city+findings

Some people are very clever: Symbollix define themselves as “pioneers in innovative publicity techniques”. The idea is simple but effective: creating “anti-grafittis” by cleaning out certain parts of the dirty surfaces in the city. The result is eye-catching and, at the same time, a good way of staying clear of possible demands for vandalism.

Madrid wakes up with a new 22km long bike lane

Category: ⚐ EN+city+events

The night from Saturday 24th to Saturday 25th of November, a bike lane has been painted on the streets of Madrid (Atocha_Colón_boulevards to Pincesa_Moncloa_Ciudad Universitaria).

The bike lane covers 11 km each way. It was painted by over 100 people in less than 1 hour. No incidents were recorded.
Yesterday -Sunday 25th- a further event took place to claim a functional bike lane and the use of bicycles as a safe means of transport that is cheap, ecological and autonomous.

….bike lane… going into action!!

Category: ⚐ EN+city+events

We have received an email from Lara telling us how the project “a bike lane for Madrid” was followed by a large number of people in the last meeting in patio Maravillas, in Madrid city centre.
She tells us: “I am very happy for the warm welcoming the project has received in your blog, the comments, and the people who attended the meeting because they read about it on the day and wanted to find out what was going on…. The bike lane is going ahead, it is going into action.

Last Wednesday (24th October) two workshops took place in patio Maravillas:
Mobiliario alegal-Santiago Cirujeda
Plantillas carril bici-Patio Maravillas/BiciMad

Ps. I have just returned from Seville and have been positively impressed by the number of people who use the bike lane recently created there. It would be great if the same thing happened in Madrid!
