Category: ⚐ EN+architecture
Go public. From the successful spaces designed to be enjoyed by the community to the tools citizens have to influence those areas, common or not. From new design methods that create extraordinary opportunities to decisions that challenge our basic public structures. And all this through documentation, investigation and idealization of what can be done; because we believe in the power of PUBLIC. Yes, that is you.
The eighth issue of the quarterly design journal MAS Context, PUBLIC, is already out. All the content is available for free at www.mascontext.com, where you can order a printed copy of the journal from Lulu and download the electronic version.
Contributors include Luis Chillida, Andrew Clark, Lick Fai Eric Ho, Matthew Hoffman, Iker Gil, KARO* with Architektur+Netzwerk, labRAD, Edward Emile Richardson, Rob Smith, Snøhetta, Francine Stock, and David Yoon.
MAS Context is a quarterly journal created by MAS Studio that addresses issues that affect the urban context. Its aim is to provide a comprenhensive view of a topic by the active participation of people from different fields and different perspectives. It instigates the debate.

Researcher looks for link between people’s health and where they live
We know that smoking causes cancer, yet we still light up. We know that overeating causes obesity and diabetes, yet we still overeat. We know that exercise makes us healthier, yet we can’t resist the couch’s siren song.
We all want to be healthier, and we know how to become so. Yet we just don’t do it.
S.V. Subramanian, associate professor of society, human development, and health at the Harvard School of Public Health and a researcher at the Center for Population and Development Studies, has heard all of the theories explaining why living a healthy lifestyle is so difficult. We’re predisposed to pack on pounds to survive the famine that, in olden days, was certainly coming. We’re addicted to the nicotine in cigarettes and the fat in burgers, which get their hooks into us. Convenience is key: Who can drag themselves to the gym every day and cook healthy meals of nuts, fruits, and vegetables when the golden arches beckon? continue reading
We have inaugurated the exhibition at DAZ, and now we can show you a bit of how it looks, as well as how it has been produced.
The whole exhibition comes inside a suitcase and a bag (that you can take with you as hand luggage on the plane).
The big pictures on the wall are made of A4 self-adhesive papers, stuck one next to each other.
The drawings are made directly on the walls of the exhibition room with markers in two colours (COPIC markers: tahitian blue + salmon red). These colours are compatible with cyan-red 3d glasses, and allow us to have two different points of view depending on the eye we are blinking.
Finally, we have made a photosynth with all the pictures of the finished exhibition, as the best way to have an idea of how it looks, especially for those who won’t have the opportunity to see it.
(to view this photosynth you will need to download and install Silverlight, it’s fast and easy!)

Comments Off on #followresearch: Marta Guerra Pastrián
It will run for three months and will allow participants to achieve high levels of knowledge in the design-to-production process through the use of advanced digital tools for design and machines for the creation of physical models.
The entire course, based at the Polytechnic of Milan, will take place through studies, workshops and working periods assisted (during the development, manufacture and test trial) by a team of highly skilled professionals and teachers (from studies and international schools like AA London, ARUP, Buro Happold, Zaha Hadid, Gehry Technologies, SPAN Architects …). continue reading
